South Indian Fish Kuzhambu / Meen kuzhambu with coconut :

Fish Kuzhambu with coconut paste....


Ingredients :

  1. Fish - 8 to 10 pcs
  2. Tamarind paste - 3 tsp
  3. Shallots - 10 or Onions - 2 finely chopped
  4. Garlic cloves - 5 to 6
  5. Tomato - 2 Finely chopped
  6. Green chilly - 2
  7. Pepper corns - 1 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  9. Red chilly powder - 2 tsp
  10. Coriander powder - 1 tsp ( Optional )
  11. Mustard seeds / Urad dal  - 1 tsp
  12. Asafoetida / Hing - 1 pinch
  13. Few curry leaves
  14. Few coriander leaves
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Oil - 3 to 4 tsp

To Grind :

  1. In a blender, put coconut , pepper corns, jeera & curry leaves
  2. Make a coarse paste 

Method :

  1. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once its splutter add urad dal, pepper corns & curry leaves. saute it for a min.
  2. Add shallots,garlic,green chilly & tomatoes,saute it for 3 min 
  3. Then add the coconut paste, turmeric powder, red chilly powder,coriander powder, tamarind paste & salt
  4. Mix it well.Allow it to boil for 15 - 20 min
  5. When oil separates add the cleaned fish.(The fish will cook faster).allow it boil for 5 to 7 min
  6. Once the fish turns soft add the coriander leaves & turn off the flame.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
