Homemade Sambar powder - South Indian sambar powder :

 Traditional south Indian sambar powder..Sambar is one of the important part in our cuisine .let's see step by step pictures....

Ingredients :

  1. Dry red chilly - 2 cups - 250gm - 300 gm
  2. Coriander seeds -  1.5 cup
  3. Turmeric powder / Manjal podi - 2 tbsp
  4. Mustard seeds / Kaduku - 1 tbsp
  5. Fenugreek seeds / Vendayam - 2 tsp
  6. Cumin seeds / Jeerakam - 2 tbsp
  7. Toor dal / Tuvaram powder - 3 tbsp
  8. Channa dal / Kadalai paruppu - 3 tbsp
  9. Urad dal / Ulundu paruppu - 3 tbsp
  10. Pepper corns - 2 tbsp
  11. Asafoetida / Hing - 1 tsp
  12. Salt - 1 tsp

Method :

  1. Take a heavy bottom pan. heat in medium flame
  2. First dry roast the dals, roast them for few mins till the color change.
  3. Then Dry roast the ingredients, one by one in low flame expect turmeric powder.
  4. Each ingredient took 3 - 4 mins for dry roast.
  5. Lets cool down completely.
  6. In a bender, put the ingredients, add turmeric powder and salt.
  7. Salt prevent the powder for long time.
  8. Grind it in a semi powder.
  9. Then transfer into plate or newspaper and cool it completely.
  10. Store it in air tight container.
Preparation time : 15 mins
