Sweet Chaat Chutney I Tamarind Date Chutney
Cooking Time : 15 mins
Ingredients :
- Brown Dates ( Seedless) - 1/2 cup
- Tamarind paste - 2 tbsp
- Jaggery / Vellam - 3/4 tbsp
- Jeera / Cumin powder - 1 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Black salt - 1 tsp OR salt - 1 tsp
Method : 1
- If you are using seeded dates, remove the seeds and keep aside.
- Crumble the jaggery.
- If you are using tamarind, soak in hot water for 15 mins.
- Soak the dates in hot water for 30 mins and cover with the lid.
- Dry roast the jeera till nice aroma comes, then grind into a fine powder, set aside.
- In a blender, put the soaked dates, tamarind, jaggery, red chilly powder, cumin powder and black salt, grind it in a smooth paste.
- In a pan, heat the sweet chutney in low flame for 5 - 7 mins.
- Once chutney becomes thick sauce consistency turn off the flame.
Method : 2
- Pressure cook dates and tamarind with very little water say 1/3 cup for 3 whistles.
- Cool down completely.
- In a blender, add dates and tamarind,grind it to a smooth paste.
- Transfer this mixture to a pan and heat it up.Add jaggery and red chilly powder.Simmer and let it boil for 5 mins.
- Once it becomes saucy add roasted jeera powder and give another boil till the chutney becomes thick like sauce consistency.
- Switch off and Store it in refrigerator and use as required.
