Red Chilly Chutney - சிவப்பு மிளகாய் சட்னி Recipe :

Spicy red chilly chutney ....It goes well with idly , dosa and paniyaram.

Red Chilly Chutney - சிவப்பு மிளகாய் சட்னி 
Cooking Time: 20 min
Cuisine: South Indian 

Ingredients:

  1. Red chilly - 20 -25 
  2. Jaggery / Vellam - 1 small piece ( Optional)
  3. Tamarind - 1 medium lemon size 
  4. Crushed ginger garlic - 1 tbsp
  5. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp 
  6. Urad dal - 1/2 tsp 
  7. Asafoetida / Hing - a pinch 
  8. Oil - 1 tbsp
  9. Few curry leaves 
  10. Salt to taste 

Method:

  1. Soak the red chilly and tamarind separately in hot water for 15 mins.
  2. In a blender, Grind the red chilly along with little water and make a semi fine paste.
  3. Extract the juice from tamarind and set aside.
  4. Crushed the ginger garlic.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds once its splutter add urad dal, curry leaves and asofoetida.
  6. Now add the crushed ginger garlic saute it till raw smell goes.
  7. Then add the red chilly paste saute for 2 - 3 mins and add the tamarind juice and enough salt cook till oil separates.
  8. Finally add the jaggery (optional) fry the chutney till thick consistency.
  9. Serve with idly , dosa.
  10. The color difference of the chutney is due to the lighting in the kitchen.
