Spicy red chilly chutney ....It goes well with idly , dosa and paniyaram.

Red Chilly Chutney - சிவப்பு மிளகாய் சட்னி

Ingredients:
- Red chilly - 20 -25
- Jaggery / Vellam - 1 small piece ( Optional)
- Tamarind - 1 medium lemon size
- Crushed ginger garlic - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
- Asafoetida / Hing - a pinch
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Few curry leaves
- Salt to taste
Method:
- Soak the red chilly and tamarind separately in hot water for 15 mins.
- In a blender, Grind the red chilly along with little water and make a semi fine paste.
- Extract the juice from tamarind and set aside.
- Crushed the ginger garlic.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds once its splutter add urad dal, curry leaves and asofoetida.
- Now add the crushed ginger garlic saute it till raw smell goes.
- Then add the red chilly paste saute for 2 - 3 mins and add the tamarind juice and enough salt cook till oil separates.
- Finally add the jaggery (optional) fry the chutney till thick consistency.
- Serve with idly , dosa.
- The color difference of the chutney is due to the lighting in the kitchen.
