Brinjal Puli Kulambu - Kathirikai Puli Kulambu recipes :

South Indian famous Brinjal puli kulambu.....

Ingredients :

  1. Brinjal / Kathirikai - 5 Chopped
  2. Onion - 2 finely chopped
  3. Garlic cloves - 5 
  4. Coconut paste - 1  cup
  5. Thatta payaru - 1/2 cup (optional)
  6. Tamarind paste - 3 tsp
  7. Sambar powder - 2 tbsp
  8. Homemade kulambu powder - 2 tbsp
  9. Turmeric powder - pinch
  10. Salt to taste 


To temper :

  1. Oil - 3 tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  3. Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
  4. Few curry leaves 

Method :

  1. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once its splutter add urad dal and few curry leaves.
  2. Then add the chopped onions and garlic, saute until browned.
  3. Now add the brinjals and thatta payaru,saute for 3 mins.
  4. Make sure add the tamarind juice only after brinjal cooked.
  5. Add tamarind pulp once brinjal become soft, allow it to boil.
  6. Grind the coconut paste with little water,\.
  7. Then add the coconut paste and mix it well.
  8. Add the sambar powder, turmeric powder, kulambu powder and salt.mix it well.
  9. Allow it to boil few more mins until it reaches a thick consistency and oil separating.
  10. Turn off the flame.
