Drumstick Leaves Sambar / Murungai Kerai Sambar Recipe:

A Traditionally lunch menu of south Indian is incomplete without sambar and usually sambar is prepared using a  variety of vegetables . This kerai sambar is very healthy combined with toor daal and delicious.

Murungai Kerai Sambar

Ingredients :


  1. Drumstick Leaves/ Murungakai Kerai - 2 cups
  2. Toor Daal / Thuvaram Paruppu                    - 1/2 cup 
  3. Onion                                              - 2 ( Finely Chopped )
  4. Tomato                                            - 2 ( Finely Chopped )
  5. Green chilly                                     - 3

For Tempering :


  1. Oil                               - 2 tsp
  2. Mustard Seeds              - 1 tsp
  3. Few Curry Leaves

Method :
Murungai Kerai

Take all the Ingredients



Soak daal in water for Half hour

Heat the daal in water, cook it for 20 min

Lets boil

Add Turmeric Powder

Add the Ingredients

Put the leaves in boiling daal and Stir the leaves

Add salt and stir gently , cook for 5 - 8min

Heat oil in pan add mustard seeds and curry leaves

Murungai kerai Sambar Ready
