Moong Dal Sambar (Paasi Paruppu / Siru Paruppu Sambar) Recipe :

Moong Dal Sambar (Paasi Paruppu / Siru Paruppu Sambar), a tiffin sambar variety which is made watery and goes well with idli or dosa.....

Ingredients :

  1. Moong dal / Paasi paruppu  - 1/2 cup 
  2. Shallots - 10 - 15 
  3. Tomato - 1 medium size / finely chopped
  4. Green chilly - 2 finely chopped
  5. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  6. Idly batter - 1 ladle ( optional)
  7. Salt to taste 
  8. Few coriander leaves

To Temper :

  1. Oil - 1 tbsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  3. Jeera / Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  4. Few curry leaves 

Method :

  1. Dry roast the moong dal till nice aromo comes and cool down completely.
  2. Pressure cook the moong dal and turmeric powder with enough water for 4- 5 whistles until is mushy.
  3. Smash it well with laddle, set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once its splutter add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
  5. Add the shallots, tomato and green chilly, saute it till raw smell goes.
  6. Now add the cooked moong dal with enough  water and mix it well.
  7. Add enough salt, cover and cook for 10 - 15 mins.
  8. Once it boil, add the idly batter ( It will give thickness to sambar and different taste) and mix it well without any lumps.
  9. Cook for another 5 mins.
  10. Finally add the chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
  11. Serve hot with Idly / Dosa.
