Simple South Indian fish kuzhambu without coconut....
Ingredients :
- Fish - 8 to 10 pcs
- Tamarind paste - 3 tsp
- Shallots - 10 or Onions - 2 finely chopped
- Garlic cloves - 5 to 6
- Tomato - 2 Finely chopped
- Green chilly - 2
- Pepper corns - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 2 tsp
- Coriander powder - 1 tsp ( Optional )
- Mustard seeds / Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Asafoetida / Hing - 1 pinch
- Few curry leaves
- Few coriander leaves
- Salt to taste
- Oil - 3 to 4 tsp
Method :
- Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once its splutter add urad dal, pepper corns & curry leaves. saute it for a min.
- Add shallots,garlic,green chilly & tomatoes,saute it for 3 min
- Then add the turmeric powder, red chilly powder,coriander powder, tamarind paste & salt
- Mix it well.Allow it to boil for 15 - 20 min
- When oil separates add the cleaned fish.(The fish will cook faster).allow it boil for 5 to 7 min
- Once the fish turns soft add the coriander leaves & turn off the flame.
- Serve hot with rice.
