Moong dal sambar (Paasi Paruppu / Siru Paruppu Sambar) Recipe
Cooking Time : 30 mins
Ingredients :
- Moong dal / Paasi paruppu - 1/2 cup
- Shallots - 10 - 15
- Tomato - 1 medium size / finely chopped
- Green chilly - 2 finely chopped
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Idly batter - 1 ladle ( optional)
- Salt to taste
- Few coriander leaves
To Temper :
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Jeera / Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Few curry leaves
Method :
- Dry roast the moong dal till nice aromo comes and cool down completely.
- Pressure cook the moong dal and turmeric powder with enough water for 4- 5 whistles until is mushy.
- Smash it well with laddle, set aside.
- Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds once its splutter add cumin seeds and curry leaves.
- Add the shallots, tomato and green chilly, saute it till raw smell goes.
- Now add the cooked moong dal with enough water and mix it well.
- Add enough salt, cover and cook for 10 - 15 mins.
- Once it boil, add the idly batter ( It will give thickness to sambar and different taste) and mix it well without any lumps.
- Cook for another 5 mins.
- Finally add the chopped coriander leaves and turn off the flame.
- Serve hot with Idly / Dosa.
