Cabbage Poriyal Recipe :

Cabbage Poriyal is a popular dish of southern Indian side dish, which is made by grated coconut and also easy to prepare.
Cabbage Poriyal

  • It is low in Calories & high in nutritional value.

Ingredients :


  1. Cabbage                        - 2 cups ( Shredded/chopped)
  2. Fresh or Frozen Peas      - Handful (optional)
  3. Grated Coconut              - 3 tsp
  4. Onion                            - 1 finely chopped
  5. Green chilly                   - 2 finely chopped
  6. Fennel / Sombu seeds     - 1 tsp
  7. Soaked Bengal gram       - 3 tsp
  8. Mustard seeds               - 1 tsp
  9. Oil                               - 2 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder           - 1 pinch
  11. Few curry leaves
  12. Salt to taste

Method :

Take all the Ingredients

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds , when its splutter, add fennel seeds, Bengal gram and curry leaves. saute it for few seconds

Add onion , saute it till its turn golden brown in color

Add the shredded cabbage , peas and pinch of turmeric powder and mix gently 

Add 1/4 cup of water ,salt, cover and cook over a medium flame for 10 min

Once cooked, add grated coconut mix well and remove from flame

Serve as an accompaniment with rice.
