Arisi Paruppu Sadam Recipe:

Arisi Paruppu Sadam is very famous in Coimbatore....Lets see this delicious dish with step by step pictures....

Arisi Paruppu Sadam 
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Cuisine: South Indian

Ingredients: 

  1. Rice - 2 cups
  2. Toor dal - 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp
  3. Shallots - 15 - 20
  4. Tomato - 3 medium sizw
  5. Garlic cloves - 5
  6. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  7. Sambar powder- 1 tbsp
  8. Few coriander leaves 
  9. Ghee - 3 - 4 tsp
  10. Salt to taste 

To Temper:

  1. Oil - 3 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  3. Jeera - 2 tsp
  4. Red chillies - 3 -4 
  5. Asafoetida / Hing - a pinch
  6. Few curry leaves

Method:

  1. Soak the rice and dal together in water for at-least 30 mins.
  2. Drain the water and set the rice an dal aside.
  3. Wash and cut the onion, garlic and tomatoes finely.
  4. Heat oil and ghee in the pressure cooker, once it gets hot add mustard seeds once its splutter add jeera, red chilies, hing and curry leaves.
  5. Now add the onion along with turmeric powder and saute till it turns translucent.
  6. Then add the chopped tomatoes and saute well, till it get soft and mushy.
  7. Once tomatoes cooked add the sambar powder and saute it for a min.
  8. Now add the soaked and drained rice and dal to the cooker and mix it well.
  9. For 2 cups of rice add 3 1/2 cups water and add salt to taste.
  10. Close the pressure cooker with its lid and put on the weight and cook for 2 whistles.
  11. And switch off the flame, let the stem escape before opening the lid.
  12. After opening the lid ,Add 2 tsp of ghee and coriander leaves, mix it well.
  13. Serve hot with apallam, potato roast.
