Ingredients:
- Rice - 2 cups
- Toor dal - 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp
- Shallots - 15 - 20
- Tomato - 3 medium sizw
- Garlic cloves - 5
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Sambar powder- 1 tbsp
- Few coriander leaves
- Ghee - 3 - 4 tsp
- Salt to taste
To Temper:
- Oil - 3 tsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Jeera - 2 tsp
- Red chillies - 3 -4
- Asafoetida / Hing - a pinch
- Few curry leaves
Method:
- Soak the rice and dal together in water for at-least 30 mins.
- Drain the water and set the rice an dal aside.
- Wash and cut the onion, garlic and tomatoes finely.
- Heat oil and ghee in the pressure cooker, once it gets hot add mustard seeds once its splutter add jeera, red chilies, hing and curry leaves.
- Now add the onion along with turmeric powder and saute till it turns translucent.
- Then add the chopped tomatoes and saute well, till it get soft and mushy.
- Once tomatoes cooked add the sambar powder and saute it for a min.
- Now add the soaked and drained rice and dal to the cooker and mix it well.
- For 2 cups of rice add 3 1/2 cups water and add salt to taste.
- Close the pressure cooker with its lid and put on the weight and cook for 2 whistles.
- And switch off the flame, let the stem escape before opening the lid.
- After opening the lid ,Add 2 tsp of ghee and coriander leaves, mix it well.
- Serve hot with apallam, potato roast.
